For what it’s worth, I don’t like Bitch Lab, I don’t read her, I don’t think she’s very bright, and I think the main thing she piggybacked on recently was a comment thread to a post she didn’t author. Nice appropriation, that.

So: Don’t like Bitch Lab? Join the club, and don’t read her. Read the women she rips off instead. They’re better.

Just go ahead and bitch

Oh much, much, much too sad! (Is it my imagination, or are there more progressives dying during this administration’s reign than reactionaries?)

Ellen Willis’ “Beginning to See the Light,” her essays on (mostly) feminism and rock ‘n roll, was one of my Bibles as a high school kid, and I remember being awed by the complexity and lucidity of her writing (perhaps it’s her fault that I never became much of a theory-head), and her bucking of armchair political progressiveness.

She was the first feminist (and come to think of it, I can hardly think of anyone else since) to say what I’d always secretly thought (and remember folks, this was the 70s): that womyn’s music, Olivia style, made her feel wimpy, while the Rolling Stones made her feel raunchy and strong and tough.

Sad, sad, sad. An incisive, original mind is gone.
